There is no reliable universal machine count
A 20ft or 40ft label does not establish how many CNC machines can be loaded safely. Machine envelopes differ, accessories may travel separately and the packed cargo can be larger than the installed machine. Ask for a loading plan for the actual units. Do not accept a fixed count based only on the machine model or container floor area.
Collect package-by-package information
For each machine and accessory package request packed length, width, height, gross weight, lifting points and handling restrictions. Include the bar feeder, chip conveyor, transformer, coolant equipment, detached guards and any separate tooling crates where applicable. Confirm who is responsible for preparing and checking these measurements. A machine weight that excludes its bar feeder is not the shipment's total gross weight.
Check the selected container and the handling route
Have your forwarder compare the cargo with the actual equipment's internal dimensions, door opening, payload and loading constraints. Hapag-Lloyd publishes specifications for different container types; use the selected carrier's equipment details for a shipment rather than treating a generic diagram as a guarantee. The loading and unloading method, securing arrangements and destination access also need review. Large equipment may require a different transport plan, subject to a competent packing and freight assessment.
Use inventory dimensions as a starting point only
The supplied CITIZEN A20 sheet lists approximate installed dimensions of 2,095 × 1,100 × 1,700 mm and approximate machine weight of 2,500 kg. Those figures are not confirmed packed dimensions. The MAZAK VARIAXIS i-700 sheet lists a much larger installed envelope, and the OM VTLEX 915 listing requires a machine-specific dismantling review. These examples show why dividing a container's floor area by one machine footprint is not an adequate loading calculation.
Request a written loading proposal
Send the forwarder the shortlist, destination port, required delivery conditions and package details. Ask for a scaled layout or other documented loading proposal, confirmation of equipment type and a breakdown of packing and handling charges. Have qualified providers confirm the method before booking.
